To make education accessible and affordable to its international students, Saint Martin University has established international graduate student grants for the 2022-2023 academic year.
The scholarship is offered exclusively to international students who have participated as exchange students from a global partner school as undergraduates at SMU.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must join as full-time students at SMU. Winners will be awarded $5,000.
About Saint Martin University
Saint Martin is a fourth-century monk, missionary, and later Bishop of Tours. The University and its founder, Saint Martin’s Abbey, are spread over 300 acres (1.2 km2) of woods, trees, rocks, and winding paths.
The site was chosen in 1894 by Abbot Bernard Locnikar, O.S.B., of Saint John’s Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota, the mother abbey of St. Martin’s Abbey.
At a public auction on April 21, 1894, the wooded lot that was to become the St. Martin’s campus was purchased for $6,920.
Work on the first St. Martin’s building began in January 1895, and by the end of the summer, the four-story building was completed, housing both the school and the convent.
The school then offered preparatory classes for boys plus commercial and classical education for older boys and young men. Boarding students from out of town were also accommodated in one large campus building.
Saint Martin’s University is a private Benedictine university in Lacey, Washington.
The University was founded in 1895 as an all-boys boarding school by Benedictine monks but became a degree-granting institution in 1940. SMU is ranked 35th in regional universities West.
