Kader Asmal Postgraduate Fellowships is a fully-funded scholarship, offered to South African students who wish to study a course at a master’s level, in any well renowned and certified University based in Ireland but lack the relevant financial assistance to pursue their academics.
Kader Asmal Postgraduate Fellowships continue to support leadership potentials, and aim at promoting sustainable development goals, alongside empowering women through various leadership skills and STEM participation.
Applicants who receive the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme scholarship will reap the following benefits listed below;
- The scholarship fund would cover applicants’ full tuition fees for their Master’s course or higher.
- The scholarship fund will also pay for applicants’ or students’ relevant flight expenses.
- The fund will also pay for applicants’ accommodation expenses, within their chosen University campus.
- Applicants will also receive a monthly stipend to reduce the cost of expenses monthly, alongside health insurance and other unforeseen expenditure.

Eligibility Criteria for the Kader Asmal Postgraduate Fellowships Programme for Study in Ireland

- Applicants in the following courses who are citizens of South Africa are eligible to apply; Agriculture, Health, Education, Human Rights, Computer Science, Engineering, and Business.
- Applicants must possess at least 2 years of relevant work experience; internship, Community service would be considered.
- Applicants must possess a transcript from an already completed honour degree from a verified and government-approved higher institution, with a grade point average not less than 75% but could be more.
- Applicants must not be presently occupying a course at master’s level or higher. In order words, applicants who are already studying a master’s course or higher are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must commence their course of study either at master’s level, or higher no later than August or September of the next academic session.
- Applicants must possess documents that reflect their leadership skills and ambitions, as well as their level of commitment to the achievement of the SDGs in South Africa.
- Applicants must have considered and selected 2 courses above, which are considered eligible for the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme.
- Applicants must fulfil all eligibility criteria necessary for their chosen courses, alongside relevant English language speaking test results.
- Applicants must have applied for the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme not more than once in the past.
- Applicants must be mentally and medically fit and certified to accept the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme, in the present academic year if found eligible.
Please note that students who graduated from Universities with historical issues or Universities of Technology, and wish to study a master’s course or higher in Ireland, are also encouraged to apply.

How to Apply for the Kader Asmal Postgraduate Fellowship Programme for Study in Ireland
Application for the present [Aca_Year] is available online and would expire on the 3rd of August of the present year.
Please note, that application forms submitted from applicants who have not fulfilled all relevant eligibility criteria listed above, would not be considered. Hence, applicants must ensure they are eligible for the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme before applying.
The application process for the fellowship is classified into 3 categories;
- The first step is the preliminary application form for the fellowship. The application form must be correctly filled out by applicants, to allow the selection committee to assess all relevant information.
- The next step is a detailed application which starts in September. Once applicants are notified about their success, in the first step then they can proceed to the second step.
- Applicants would be required to fill out another application form, and upload all necessary documents. Below is a list of relevant documents;
- Applicants would be required to submit a recent passport.
- Applicants must also upload a copy of their certificate, for any higher education degree they have earned previously.
- Applicants will also upload their academic results earned from previous education degrees. Attachment of other documents, that best explain the grading system used in their previous University is needed.
- Applicants are also required to submit not less than 2 letters of recommendation; each letter must bear an official letterhead with relevant contact details, from the guarantors and their signature.
- Please note that the letter of recommendation must be from individuals, who had taught you personally in the past.
- Applicants must also submit a copy of their identification passport
- Applicants must also upload or submit a copy of their IELTS results, written not less than a year before they apply for the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme.
- Applicants who do not possess an IELTS result would be required, to sit for the exam and must possess the required score
- Applicants must submit an updated Curriculum vitae or a resume.
- Once applicants pass the second stage, they would then undergo the last stage which is the interview process.
