The purpose of the Margaret McNamara Educational Grants MMEG is to support women from developing nations who are pursuing higher education to improve the lives of women and children in their communities.
We are one of the few groups that help these ladies financially. Grants of up to fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) in the US/Canada program and seven thousand dollars ($7,000) in Africa, Latin America, and Trinity programs have been awarded in previous years.

Margaret McNamara’s goal of education and gender equality is an inspiration to our organization. Margaret utilized her position as the wife of Robert McNamara.

She was awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest civilian honour in the United States, shortly before her death in appreciation of her significant services.
Margaret McNamara Education Grants (formerly known as MMMF) is a public charity that awards education grants to excellent women from poor nations who are at least 25 years old and enrolled in the US, Canadian, and select South African and Latin American universities. It was founded in 1981.

Qualification Requirements for MMEG Scholarships
Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered:
- At the time of the application deadline, you must be at least 25 years old (see individual regional program application below);
- Be a citizen of one of the countries on the MMEG Eligibility List;
- Be enrolled in an accredited academic institution at the time of application, and plan to remain enrolled for the whole academic term after the Board approves the grant;
- Not be related to or married to a member of the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, or the Inter-American Development Bank
Africa: In addition to the aforementioned requirements, an applicant must also meet the following:
already be enrolled part-time (minimum of two courses per semester or term) or full-time at one of the institutions listed below, AND be enrolled at one of the universities listed below for the following academic year (January-December or September-May):
- The University of the Witwatersrand is located in Johannesburg, South Africa.
- The University of Cape Town is situated in Cape Town, South Africa.
- Stellenbosch University
- Pretoria University
- The University of the Free State is a public university in the United States.
Applicants from countries other than South Africa who apply must already have study permission for the country.
Estimated costs should be computed in Rand and expressed as such.

COVID-19 UPDATES
MMEG has continued to issue funding, most notably in the South Africa and Latin America programs, despite the disruption created by the coronavirus outbreak. Volunteers on the Selection Committee have been reviewing applications (remotely).
