Not only did they relent the power to set benchmarks, but they also put a minimum cut-off mark to still regulate the marks set by each institution.
Although each tertiary institution is allowed to establish its cut-off marks, JAMB but some checks in place for regulation’s sake and those checks are as follows;
● Federal & State Polytechnic: 120
● Private Polytechnic: 110
This means that depending on if you want to attend a private or public polytechnic, you have to strive to attain and pass each of the maximum cut-off marks.
Moreover, each polytechnic is still required to set its cut-off mark. The marks above set by JAMB is to establish a minimum, so you also have to confirm your school’s cut-off mark.
Unlike universities, polytechnics are far easier to get into without the unnecessary increase in scores done by universities of high prestige.
However, you should note that to reduce the volume of applications, most polytechnics with a high volume of applications can often raise their cut-off marks.
If you plan to attend a ‘popular’ polytechnic, you should consider getting a mark that is way higher than the school’s benchmark.
But, if you are going for a polytechnic with less application volume, getting the cut-off mark might guarantee you entrance.
