This scholarship is specifically for candidates in the fields of Human and Health Sciences pursuing a research degree and it is awarded from the office of the Vice-Chancellor for the continuity of postgraduate research programs in the School of Human and Health Sciences.
This scholarship waiver is only applicable within the School of Human and Health Sciences and it awards a % waiver of fees for UK resident students. (International students would receive a waiver of the equivalent of home fees and therefore pay only the difference between home and international fees.)
However, if the international student is resident in the Uk, the additional International charge would not apply.
Value of Scholarship:
These scholarships are only available to graduates of the University of Huddersfield which aims at the very best; and who could be better than its alumni?
Therefore Huddersfield graduates are encouraged to apply to reap the benefits of £3000 per year bursary for full-time study or £1,500 per year for part-time study as well as the fee waiver. These bursaries are only available to exceptional candidates.
The scholarship for doctoral awards will be either 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time and for Master’s by Research awards this will be either 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time.
Eligibility Criteria:
- This is a postgraduate scholarship so the applicants must have a first-class honours degree from the University of Huddersfield or a distinction at taught Master’s degree.
- The alumni must have been recommended on the basis of their Master’s by Research by their supervisor and can demonstrate strong positive comments from the Master’s examiners (applicants must agree for us to review their examination outcome documents). This is where your relationship with your professors comes into play. Because without strong and positive recommendations, you’re toast on this one.
- Finally, you have graduated from the University of Huddersfield in the last three years. If applicants are due to graduate in the current academic year, then any offer will be conditional on degree outcome.
- If selected, you would be required to submit a high-quality research proposal which aligns with the key research themes of the Research Centres within the School of Human and Health Sciences.
The scholarships are available from October 2022.
4. Vice-Chancellor’s Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarships for Postgraduate Research (PhD or Master’s by Research) in the School of Applied Sciences:
This scholarship is open only to the alumni of the University of Huddersfield and it is a highly competitive full tuition fee waiver scholarship within the School of Applied Sciences aimed at recapturing the very best Huddersfield graduates.

- The candidate must have graduated from the University of Huddersfield in the last three years.
- Before applying, the candidate should have to identify a project and a potential supervisor in the School. This can be done by discovering the research projects advertised on Course Finder or through Pure profiles of prospective supervisors.
- After that, you should also contact the prospective supervisor who will be able to advise on the required additional non-tuition fee costs for the project.
(These additional costs for Applied Science research degrees commonly range from £1,000 – to £12,000 per year, depending upon the research project.)
- You must hold a first-class honours degree in a relevant subject or distinction at taught Master’s in a relevant subject (or an international equivalent.)
If applicants are due to graduate in the current academic year, then any offer will be conditional on degree outcome.
As all research degree applications are assessed on a competitive basis and if you are shortlisted for the VC tuition fee waiver scheme then you will be invited to an interview with the prospective supervisor and a senior member of academic staff within the School. This will generally take place 2-4 weeks following the date of your application.
Conclusion:
The decision will be made by the individual Schools and may be awarded to applicants whose proposal addresses one of the strategic research aims
