Due to the current crisis going on in Ukraine resulting in the death of thousands of innocents, including Ukrainian students and immigrants, Italy has decided to extend a helping hand in any way they can.
They have offered, to accommodate and sponsor Ukrainian students either undergraduate or postgraduate in any department of thief choice, providing it is available at the University of Milan.
Why Is Italy Assisting Ukrainian Students?
This is their response to the Russo-Ukrainian war. They choose peace and because Ukraine is the country being attacked and damaged by Russia, Italy, through the University of Milan is offering to help Ukraine, responding to it’s social responsibility as a country.
Apart from Ukrainians, the University of Milan has always been positive towards International and foreign students. In fact, one of the University of Milan’s missions is to create internationalization strategies for increasing incoming mobility and attractiveness to foreign students, the University of Milan offers its international students scholarships and exemptions from tuition fees.
So, you can be sure that this is a mutually beneficial scholarship, not a bogus one.
Is Italy Currently Safe For Ukrainians?
At the moment, yes. Italy is a safe country for Ukrainians and is welcoming you with open arms.
Ukrainians are allowed to enter Italy. Refugees from Ukraine are allowed to enter Italy without the need to apply for a visa for up to 90 days, as long as they possess a biometric passport for recognition and documentation purposes.
In addition, the Italian Ministry of Health published a set of procedures to assist travellers fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. This includes access to treatment, COVID-19 vaccinations, Green certification and assistance to pets.
Also, Ukrainian travellers are allowed to transit through Italy by air without following the listed procedures. They are required to remain within a designated area of the airport during transit.
So you see, Italy has put in measures and procedures that break the standard protocol to assist Ukrainians fleeing their country in haste, due to the war.
University of Milan Scholarship Grants for Ukrainian Students
As I have already stated above, the University of Milan or Statale (as it is also known) is offering a scholarship worth €6,000.00 for twenty international Ukrainians each in response to the current humanitarian emergency in Ukraine.
This scholarship is open to:
- Ukrainian citizens enrolled at the University of Milan in the 2021/2022 academic year,
- Ukrainian citizens belonging to Ukraine-resident households, who hold suitable school or academic qualifications to continue or begin studies at the University of Milan in
the 2022/2023 academic year.
There are exactly twenty awards available for deserving Ukrainian students who want to be part of the undergraduate or master’s degree at the University of Milan.
Eligibility Status For University Of Milan Ukrainian Scholarship Grant
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you have to either be an undergraduate or a postgraduate student.
Also, this scholarship does not demand the study of a particular course, to be considered for this scholarship as a Ukrainian student, you are required to gain an admission in the undergraduate or master’s degree coursework at the University.
However, if you are not a student at the University of Milan, you have to apply first for admission either to an undergraduate or postgraduate programme. After which it is accepted, you can now apply for the scholarship.
General Requirements For the University of Milan Scholarship Grant for Ukrainian Students:
- Scholastich and University qualifications and transcripts(preferably in Italian or English(PDF/A format; max 5 MB)
- Italian Language Certification (PDF/A format; max 5 MB)
- Residence permit.
- Applicants are advised to submit a copy of a valid identification document (PDF/A format; max 5 MB).
- Also, you need to demonstrate that you have a good level of written and spoken English, as most of the programs are taught entirely in English for the sake of the foreign student.
The University of Milan For International Students:
If you want to enrol with the University of Milan whether from this scholarship or sponsored by another, as an international student, or as a postgraduate student, your university degree will be assessed during the admission procedure.
Because you are not an Italian and did not study in an Italian university there is need to recognise your home university in Ukraine to be certain that the standards, procedures and coursework you were used it is in line with the University of Milan. And be sure of that, you would need to go through a different process where there would be a recognition of any exams taken in your country Ukraine as this would be requested during the enrolment procedure.
Every university in Italy decides whether to recognise exams taken in foreign universities or foreign qualifications, for the purposes of admission, furthering studies and achieving Italian qualifications.
And this recognition of foreign academics shall be obtained from other public administrations.
If you wish to have your university degree assessed to obtain the same Italian qualification, you have to submit an application for recognition, together with the documents listed.
The Italian university system is based on three main study cycles to which international students have access.
