The German Chancellor Fellowship Awards is searching for postgraduate international students who are passionate about their careers by study.

This scholarship is a postgraduate scholarship for students from Brazil, the People’s Republic of China, India, South Africa or the USA who has leadership experience and is passionate about undertaking projects that are societally relevant and has a lasting public impact, then scholarship is for you.
This scholarship aims to bring prospective leaders to Germany for one year to implement a personal project idea developed by themselves (candidate).

Scholarship Benefits:
The selected student stands to gain;
- A 12 months fellowship grant of 2,000 euros, 2,300 euros or 2,600 euros – depending on your training and career level and additional financial support, e.g. for mobility, accompanying family members, travel expenses, full private health insurance or additional German language courses
- an intensive language course before you begin your fellowship and funding for German courses during your fellowship and individual support during your stay in Germany.
- And for networking experience, joint events where you experience professional and personal intercultural exchange with other fellows from your year group and gain insights into German culture and society,
The German institution which you would be studying would receive a monthly allowance for research costs of 500 euros.
With this scholarship, not only would you be given the above, you would have the opportunity to make useful connections and meet representatives of German businesses and institutions
extensive alumni sponsorship and most importantly, build long-term connections in Germany over the duration of your entire professional career.
The fellowship programme is under the patronage of the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and up to 50 German Chancellor Fellowships are awarded for a 12-month project in Germany.
Eligibility Criteria For German Chancellor Fellowship Awards:
Even if you meet the above, you must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the German Chancellor Fellowship.
The criteria are;
- As already stated, this is a country-specific starship so if you are applying, you must hold Brazilian, Chinese, Indian, South African or American citizenship.
- You must work in a field such as politics, business, media, administration, society or culture and have demonstrable initial leadership experience as this is a major requirement and selection edge for candidates. (In fact, if you do not meet this, you are already considered ineligible because the German Chancellor Fellowship wants candidates who are passionate and experienced in leadership.)
- You must have completed your first academic degree (Bachelor or comparable degree) no more than twelve years ago. The key date for calculating these twelve years is 1 October 2023. This is a graduate scholarship so this is a major requirement and a hard limit.
- You also want to conduct an independently developed project with a host of your choice in Germany and therefore have good knowledge of English and/or German
- To be listed, you have to submit the necessary application documents to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation online only. Documents that include; (but are not limited to)
- A Letter Of Motivation: This should tell the board what drives you, what leadership experience you already have and what your career goals are.
- A Project Plan: This is an outline of the project you have developed yourself and agreed with your intended host before applying. Why is your project of societal significance, and how will you be able to build bridges between Germany and your home country in the future.
- An Extensive Statement. This should include a mentoring agreement from your host in Germany.
- Two Letters Of Recommendation (not more than 12 months old) from individuals who can provide information on your professional, personal and/or academic background.

- Can The Program Be Shorter Than 12 Months (1 Year)?:
No.
The German Chancellor Fellowship Foundation expects candidates to be willing to conduct an extended stay in Germany and willing to plan a twelve-month project within a time window from 1 August of the election year to 31 March of the year after next.
If the timeframe of the scholarship is not favourable, then you can you may submit an informal application to the Foundation to reduce the fellowship period in agreement with your host.
However, you must spend at least six months under this program in Germany. Although you will be required to specify how you wish to distribute your fellowship period when you accept your fellowship.
- Can I Apply for The Scholarship Abroad Instead Of Coming to Germany?
No. This scholarship is only valid in Germany so while applying, you must know that you will be required to come to Germany.
- Can The Scholarship Be Deferred?
No.

- Does The Scholarship Grant An Additional Degree/ Certificate?
No, a German Chancellor Fellowship is granted exclusively to carry out the project described in your application and agreed with your host.
It does not grant an additional degree.
- Can I Apply If I Completed My Schooling In Germany?
No, if you have earned any certificate in Germany, an application for a German Chancellor Fellowship is not possible.
- Can I Apply Before Completing My Bachelor’s (Or Equivalent) Degree?
Yes, You may apply if you graduate from your Bachelor’s programme before the 1 October of the year following your application.
However, you will have to graduate from your Bachelor’s Programme before the scholarship program starts.

Conclusion:
Due to the war against Ukraine, the Chancellor Fellowship is not open to applicants from the Russian Federation this year.
Although the Russians remain part of the Fellowship programme, this scholarship is not open to them this year.
